CEO MESSAGE

Dear Colleagues,

I am proud to announce that we, clinicians and cancer scientists of the Middle-Eastern and North African countries, have established the first non-profit association to fight cancer through cancer research and education in our region.

The Middle-Eastern Association for Cancer Research (MEACR) was created and officially registered in Montreal, Canada, in December 2009. The main objectives of the MEACR are to encourage the collaboration between cancer scientists within the Middle-East (ME) and North African region as well as those working in North America, Europe, and other parts of the world; and to promote scientific education and training of graduate students and young investigators in the ME and North African countries. To reach these objectives, the MEACR organizes an annual scientific meeting in a different country every year, within this region, in addition to the publication of a peer-reviewed scientific journal (Clinical Cancer Investigation Journal, CCIJ: www.ccij-online.org) which was launched in December, 2011. The first executive committee members meeting of the MEACR was held at Aleppo University (Aleppo-Syria) in May 2010. Subsequently, the first scientific annual meeting was held at Tanta University (Tanta-Egypt) in December 2011; and the second scientific annual meeting was organized in collaboration with Safx Biotechnology Centre (Sfax-Tunisia) in November 2012. Presently, we are preparing to organize our third annual meeting in collaboration with the Mohammed V University of Agdal which will be held in Rabat in December 2013.

I believe that active membership and collaboration are very important to keep our association viable. Therefore, I invite all Oncologists and cancer scientists from this region to become members of the MEACR. On the other hand, I encourage our researchers and clinicians to submit their next papers to the CCIJ.

Finally, I would like to thank all MEACRs’ members especially the executive committee members and the editorial board members of the CCIJ for their commitments to initiate the MEACR and its activities.

Together we will establish a better organization for fighting cancer.
